INTERNET WIRE
26 Nov 2001

The Relaxation Company announced the introduction of six new audio CDs that are based on yoga principles: "A.M. and P.M. Yoga Chants," "A.M. and P.M. Yoga Meditations" and "A.M. and P.M. Yoga Melodies." The CDs can be used by even the novice who has never tried yoga or by people who want to complement their regular yoga practice. "Peace in the world starts with finding peace within ourselves," said Jeffrey Charno, president of The Relaxation Company. "These CDs are created with the intention of assisting people in their quest for inner calm and balance."

Sound and music therapy is growing rapidly and is now used by respected hospitals, such as Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, in New York, which reports that several studies have shown that listening to music can decrease anxiety and reduce pain in people undergoing medical treatment. The hospital is conducting a study to assess the effects of music therapy on patients undergoing surgery and other trauma.

Each of The Relaxation Company's new CD sets has a specific purpose and style. The "A.M. and P.M. Yoga Chants" were composed and performed by Russill Paul, who is known for his work with the traditional Hindu yoga of sound. Chanting has been found to have many health benefits. It can lower blood pressure, produce natural painkillers, assist in the treatment of disease and improve overall well being, according to Paul. The chants on these CDs are repeated; the first time so people can listen, and the second time so people can chant along with the recording. The music used for the "A.M. Yoga Chants" is derived from the more melodic, high-energy ancient sounds of southern Indian music. The more harmonic, softer music behind the "P.M. Yoga Chants" is from the northern Indian tradition, which is more familiar to western cultures.
