Russill Paul's two-CD set, A.M & P.M. Yoga Chants, is based on Indian classical music. Raga is explored using minimalist and melodic call-and-response chants based upon the properties that the raga melody expresses. "A.M. Yoga Chants" are energizing and invigorating, while the second CD is mellower, more relaxing. As sound vibration works at our innermost levels, listening to this music can have a subtle effect on our mood, our own inner psychology. Russill, who is also an educator gives excellent information in the package, including an outline for an asana practice. His voice is deeply moving, and the arrangements are simple, yet intensely complex with intonation and emotion. This CD set is widely available.

Kirtan gives us a chance to touch deeply the heart, to replenish our energy, and expand our capacity to love. But how? Russill Paul, the composer and recording artist, gives some ideas on how we can use chant recordings to our best ability. He tells us that we can use the chants as part of our own spiritual path. Each of this month's recordings use the call-and-response format, allowing the listener to sing along in Kirtan style. This can become a spiritual practice in itself. These CDs, which are rooted in the practice of "Nada Yoga"--the Yoga of Sound, can also be used to inspire and inform our own creative asana practice. Using music as an accoutrement to practice can be beneficial, linking movement with breath, sound and rhythm. Lastly, these recordings can become the fabric of daily living, simply listening to the music while pursuing other activities, creating an accelerated sense of well-being by surrounding ourselves with spirit.
