Jesus in the Lotus: Rediscovering Christian Prayer through Yoga
For thousands of years, India has been preoccupied with prayer and meditation, devising innumerable and innovative methods of concentration through yoga postures, breathing practices, chanting and sacred movement. You don’t have to be Hindu to be a yogi, for Yoga is a non-sectarian philosophy that is based on a practical spiritual technology. It is perfectly acceptable, therefore, to be both a Christian and a yogi.
Born Christian in India, but of Hindu ancestry, Russill brings together his extraordinary skill of sacred music with two decades of practicing, studying and teaching yogic chant and meditation. Trained as a Benedictine monk and yogi under the renowned sage and mystic, Fr. Bede Griffiths, at his Benedictine Ashram in South India, Russill combines his monastic background with world class musicianship to provide profound experiences of prayer states through India’s spiritual practices.
Simple yoga postures, mind-calming movements, powerful breathing techniques and evocative chanting help to release stress, remove mental distractions and curb restlessness in the body, making for an extended and effortless connection to the Divine Presence, which is the heart of all yoga practice.
