Awakening the Mystic Heart: An Inter-Spiritual Retreat

The Mystic Heart is a metaphor for the spiritual heart, the heart of our soul, so to speak. To get in touch with our mystic heart is to come in direct contact with the heart of God, the divine pulse that lovingly creates and holds all things in existence. In our mystic heart, we realize ourselves “in God”, in the awareness that our being is derived from God’s being. Here we discover wholeness, because God’s holiness fills and pervades every corner of the fathomless depth of the mystic heart.

The mystic heart is not a denominational place; all traditions point to it and all spiritual practices are intended to lead to it. In the mystic heart, we experience ourselves as spirit, in spirit, which is to know ourselves “in Christ”, as neither male nor female, Jew nor Gentile, slave nor free person. Here, at the very core of our being we discover that a Christian’s salvation, a Hindu’s moksha (liberation) and a Buddhists nirvana (spiritual awakening) can come together, that they are not mutually exclusive terms of enlightenment but varying cultural expressions uttered from the same vantage point: the mystic heart.

During this weekend, we will explore mystical practices that lead to the discovery and awakening of the mystic heart. We will use chant, movement, breath-work, meditation and music to aid this awakening, yet mindfully aware that all technique is dependent on the grace of Spirit. Throw in the mystical poetry of Rumi and Kabir and we have recipe of great delight. This is time of shared spiritual experience in community with the intention to go deep, or in the words of Christorpher Fry: “Affairs are now soul size. The enterprise Is exploration into God”.
