A complete chanting program

Yoga! The word evokes images of people gracefully holding their bodies in positions of masterful flexibility. But alongside this familiar Yoga practice of movement and meditation is an ancient Yoga of sound largely unknown in the West, whose goal is to awaken dormant powers of the mind through the use of music and chant.

This Yoga of Sound program will initiate you into this ancient science, and will introduce you to the path of using sound to facilitate emotional balance, spiritual vitality, freedom from stress, and an expanded sense of ones’ inner space.  

DISC 1: SHABDA YOGA

This album, the first part of the Yoga of Sound 3-CD set, is also available as a single. It deals with Vedic mantras that offer inner strength and a sense of protection to the listener. Vedic mantras create an expansive, cosmic quality that lends itself to meditation and yoga practice. It is very powerful to chant or listen to these mantras in the morning.

THE 20-PAGE BOOKLET: The information booklet that comes with the CD begins with a general overview on the Yoga of Sound, which is followed by an understanding of this specific stream of sound yoga, Shabda Yoga. After this, detailed information is provided for each track.

THE MANTRAS: All of the mantras are written out for you with the exception of Track 1 and 8. These are rather complex Vedic mantras provided as a reference and as a meditation. The other mantras, from tracks 2 through 7, range from simple to complex, building up your skills in this style of sound yoga gradually. The mantras are repeated many times, so it is easy for you to chant along with the CD.

Track 7: Krato Smara, a chant from the Isa Upanisad to gather and focus energy.

Track 8: Taiterraya Upanisad invocation, a cosmic blessing.  

DISC 2: SHAKTI YOGA

This album, the second part of the Yoga of Sound 3-CD set, is also available as a single. It deals with Tantric mantras that reconnect us more intimately to our body – awakening, balancing and facilitating the flow of energy in and through the chakras, those subtle psycho-physical vortexes of energy and information located along the spinal cord. This stream of sound yoga is ideal for midday practice, as it helps us recharge for the afternoons tasks.

THE MANTRAS: All of the mantras are written out for you with the exception of a few short sections in Track 2, which is the Mahishasura Mardini , a rather complex sequence of Tantric mantras, featured to build the energy in the track flow. All the other mantras on this album are easy to work with and pronunciation is provided for the bija mantras related to the seven chakras. The mantras are repeated many times, so it is easy for you to chant along with the CD.

DISC 3: BHAVA YOGA

This album, the third part of the Yoga of Sound 3-CD set, is also available as a single. It deals with Bhakti mantras that awaken love and devotion in the heart. This stream of sound yoga is ideal for evening practice, as it helps us unwind after a busy day and prepare the heart for sacred relationships.

THE 20-PAGE BOOKLET: The information booklet that comes with the CD begins with a general overview on the Yoga of Sound, which is followed by an understanding of this specific stream of sound yoga, Bhava Yoga. After this, detailed information is provided for each track.

THE MANTRAS: All of the mantras are written out for you with the exception of the Sanskrit invocation in Track 1 and a short section in Track 2, which is a devotional song by South Indian composer Narayana Teertar, positioned to accentuate the feeling of devotion in the track. All the other mantras on this album are is provided so that you could sing along. This is the most musical of the three streams of sound yoga. Each variation of each chant is sung twice so that you could listen, learn, and then sing along with the track. Once you become familiar with the tunes, you can chant continuously.
