Nada Yoga is a spiritual and healing system that evolved out of the yogic tradition of ancient India, developing alongside the more traditional hatha yoga system of postures and physical movements. From simple expressions of the mantra Om to the complex nuances of Indian classical music, Nada Yoga is a sophisticated sonic mysticism developed and refined over centuries of practice.
The basis of Nada Yoga is that sound and music are a subtle but very real force that can harmonize and guide the flow of energies throughout the body, leading toward improved health, mental clarity, and a heightened sensory awareness. These musical mediations were created between the hours of twilight and midnight with special musical ragas that reflet these periods and acentuate your practice during these times.
To create the music on this recording, Russill Paul uses his own ten-stringed hybrid instrument (the Avitar) together with North Indian bamboo flute (the Bansuri played by South African born maestro Deepak Ram), vocal chanting by Russill Paul, traditional Indian drums (Tabla played by noted Bay Area expert Arshad Syed), an overtone producing Indian drone instrument (the Tanpura, played by Melanie Freas), and a bulky Indian style gut stringed violin that is played with the cuticle (performed by world famous maestro Ramesh Misra). Blended with nature sounds this uniquely ethereal and spirited recording is vibrant and rich with musical possibilities.
The benefits of this recording can be experienced through background listening or through a more focused listening mediation. The enclosed booklet includes optional healing meditations and breathing practices that you can use to enhance and engage with your listening experience.
