Over two years in the making, this record features a unique combination of jazz, rock, and country styles of music, expressing the profound connection that exists between the spiritual and natural worlds. Award winning music producer Jim Hawthorne and jazz phenomenon Mark Little help co-produce this album. Mark plays piano throughout the album and Jim adds some classy guitar work. Additionally, Guitar virtuoso Brad Gillis of the famed rock band Night Ranger who was instrumental on one of Ozzie Osburne's top singles, Tori Amos' bassist John Evans, and stellar string performances by noted violinist Jenny Schienmann add great flavor to the production. Last, but not in the bit least, are select members of Oakland's extraordinary East Bay Church Choir. They add tremendous energy to many of the tracks.
You will be moved by the outstanding musicianship on this collection from start to finish. All of these songs were written during Russill's life as a monk at Shantivanam Ashram in South India. The songs are in English, such as the opening track CREED FOR A NEW MILLENNIUM, a response to the Nicene Creed that many of us today find difficult to proclaim because of its exclusivism. Following closely the language and cadence of the Nicene proclamation of faith, this song is composed of inspirational statements from the teaching of His Holiness the Dalai Lama who message of loving kindness has moved young and old across cultures.
