This instrumental album features the 10-stringed Avitar, an original, custom-built instrument developed by Russill Paul. Built with the body of a dilruba, which is an ancient, bowed stringed instrument, the Avitar combines the sounds of a sitar, a guitar and a banjo in a mesmerizing array of sonic colors.

The Avitar
Blended with tablas (Indian percussion), synthesizers, guitars and a stringed drone instrument called tanpura, this beautiful recording produced by legendary folk-singer Arlo Guthrie captures the essence of Russill Paul’s unique yogic music. These instrumental selections are great for your yoga practice, meditation Tai Chi, Chi Gung as well as background music for driving or while working on your computer.
The initial tracking for the project was developed at the Guthrie center, which is the church that once was Alice's Restaurant. The center presently supports a wide range of charitable activities.
