LIVE MUSIC VIDEOS
Nottingham, NH, May 2008

All of these who did you clips were recorded at the Nottingham community Church in New Hampshire during my retreat there in May 2008. I would like to thank the Minister, Reverend Ben Fowler, for inviting me to this beautiful and historic church in rural New England, and for the support of his musical guests throughout the weekend.  Additionally, I would like to thank to musicians who accompanied me: Marty Quinn, who performed all unpublished and other assorted percussion instruments, and Ajay Sharma, who played dholak. Ajay accompanies me that many of my events.  He and his brother, Pankaj, will be with me at Kirpalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lennox, Massachusetts this September 2008, and I will be going to their family temple to present a weekend of chanting in October this year.

  • SARASWATI KIRTAN VIDEO

    about the saraswati kirtan

Saraswati is the name for the goddess as the embodiment of divine wisdom. Her name means: "she who flows". Here, in this kirtan, which is a simple, easy-to-follow, call-and-response chant, we couple the name of the goddess together with her seed syllable which is the sacred sound “aim”.

    INVOCATION TO THE GODDESS VIDEO

    about the Goddess invocation

This invocation is offered to the Divine feminine in her many forms. You will hear names such as: Uma (the embodiment of wisdom), Parvati (Shiva’s energy and symbol of the energy of the mountain), Kali (the dark one) and so on.

    GOVINDA KIRTAN

    about the meaning of Govinda

Govinda is another name for Vishnu and represents the protective power of the Divine. Govinda is Vishnu’s name as “protector of the universe” or “keeper of the human soul”. Vishnu is Purusha, the soul that animates the universe which is an extension of Vishnu, and thus, Vishnu protects the universe in which we are all and move and have our being.

    VISHNU INVOCATION

    about the invocation to Vishnu

In this segment, we are invoking Vishnu, who is symbolically the preserver of this universe. The meaning of his name, comes from the root vis, which means, “to pervade” or “to enter”. Thus, Vishnu is the Divine presence that holds every part of the universe together by virtue of its ability to be present in everything.

    INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC VIDEO

about instrumental music as a form of yoga

Instrumental music in the Indian tradition is essentially melodic.  The movement of the notes, one to the other, creates vertical alignment between the human soul and the Divine, emerging human consciousness with the sacred. The space between the notes left hanging empty in order to accentuate the sense of this communion. In this simple way we are able to taste the experience yoga through sound.
