THE LOSS OF A FRIEND

Dear friends,

I am sorry that for many months now I have not posted a
newsletter on our site. The death of our close friend,
Brother Wayne Teasdale, was an essential factor in our
withdrawal. Sometimes one has to take time and process
one’s grief in the privacy of one’s heart. Wayne was my
closest friend and spiritual brother. We shared a
friendship of 18 consecutive years and rarely missed being
away from each other at Christmas. This will be our first
Christmas without him.

Four years ago, Wayne was diagnosed with cancer of the
palate, a rare and aggressive form of the illness. Being a
teacher and public speaker by profession, this was a really
hard experience for him, especially with half his palate
removed from the first surgery. Early this year, his cancer
went into remission, and after 4 painful months of more
surgeries and experimental treatments, he died on October
09th. He left behind thousands of dearly loved friends and
many wonderful books on inter-spiritual dialog and the
mystical life, including The Mystic Heart and A Monk in the
World.

As you know, I have been traveling a lot this year and hope
to slow down on my travel next year, allowing more time for
spiritual practice in solitude. I am therefore accepting
only a few events for 2005 and hope that you will join me
at some of these.

I wish you and your loved ones a marvelous Christmas and
pray that the New Year brings much joy and prosperity into
your life. I will be at the Sivananda Yoga Retreat in the
Bahamas after which we will be in India on pilgrimage.

I pray that we become more and more available to the action
and movements and promptings of the Spirit in our lives and
that our relationship with the hidden mystery of being
deepens a hundredfold.
