ON KATRINA AND OTHER NEWS

October 5, 2005

Greetings friend,

We are coming to the end of our summer, which has been
quite wonderful, but hurricane Katrina has dampened our
spirits with its horrific devastation in Louisiana. In
response, Asha and I are planning a benefit program in the
Bay Area to raise funds for the long-term needs of this
disaster with special consideration for one of my best
students who ran a yoga center in New Orleans.
(www.wildlotusyoga.com).The event will take place sometime
this fall when Sean Johnson, my student, who is now a
teacher in his own right, will be performing in the Bay
Area. Please stay posted to be a part of the effort in
whatever capacity possible.

Like the Tsunami in South Asia last year, Katrina has
reminded us of the fragility of our lives and the need for
us to prepare for death meaningfully on a daily basis. This
is not some morbid foreboding of doom and annihilation but
the deepest wisdom available to each one of us: that our
true self is grounded in indivisible and indestructible
nature of the Godhead - consciousness itself.
Consciousness, like energy, can neither be created nor
destroyed. Consciousness simply is! It is, in fact, all
there is, to existence. The appearance of life and death
are only the waves on the surface of consciousness. This is
a time for us all to stay strong with our spiritual
practice and, needless to say, we will find numerous ways
to share with those devastated by this tragedy. It is a
time for us all to come together in service and realize
that underneath all our differences of race, color and
social distinction, there is one cosmic heart pulsating in
love.

I just returned from Rockland, Maine, after a wonderful
weekend with a warm and loving Episcopalian Church
community. It was very well attended by a nicely mixed
group of health professionals – nurses, massage therapists,
yoga instructors and medical intuitives – as well as other
professionals – school teachers, ministers, chaplains, and
business owners. They were all really open to the practice
of mantra and chanting and gave it their very best.

During my time there, I stayed at Smith’s Swiss Village. I
recommend it very highly if you ever want a quiet getaway.
It’s a gorgeous location not far from Rockland Harbor with
a magnificent view of the bay. Check it out at
www.smithsswissvillage.com. I stayed in the middle cottage
(blue).

PROGRAMS THIS FALL: Coming up next on my schedule are the
following programs. If you know friends or relatives in the
area you think might benefit from these events, please
direct them to the events page on my website
http://www.russillpaul.com/calender.html, or use the
following links to notify them:

Heartbeat of the Cosmos in Louisville, KY Oct 21 to 23
http://www.russillpaul.com/heartbeatofthecosmos.html

Autumn in the Ozarks in Eureka Springs, AR, Nov 11 to 13
http://www.russillpaul.com/arkansas.html

All these programs (including the one I just did in
Rockland, Maine, for St. Peter’s Episcopal Church) are for
progressive Christian communities deeply interested in yoga
and mantra. It is encouraging to know that such global
communities exist in our divided world and I am honored to
be a part of their energy field.

My last program for the year (first weekend in December) is
with a loving yoga community in rural Pennsylvania. Details
will be posted soon on our site.
