I hope this finds you well. We have been under the relentless 3- digit temperatures of the Texan sun for a good part of this month, but these last few days have been pleasant, thank God. Southfield, Michigan last weekend was wonderful - probably one of my best teaching experiences. See the last section of this newsletter ...

I am presently gearing up for a fabulous Labor Day weekend at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Lennox, Massachusetts (I still have to use spell check on this one state).

SEP 3 - 6: LABOR DAY WEEKEND AT KRIPALU with the Bhakti Boys and KDZ

KIRTAN TRANCE DANCE - GETTING' HIGH ON MANTRA

THE WEEKEND: The Bhakti Boys, from Downingtown, PA, (Ajay and Pankaj Sharma) will be accompanying me with vocals and ecstatic percussion throughout the weekend. We are calling the weekend, Kirtan Trance Dance - 3 days of non-stop Getting' High on Mantra - because we are not sitting still to chant. No driving permitted, which is why you will be staying on campus and eating healthy organic food and doing yoga everyday to ground yourself and keep the balance.

SEP 4 EVENING KIRTAN: On Saturday, September 4th, the three of us will be joined by extraordinary multi-percussionist Adrian Bennet and others member of Kripalu's fabulous drum ensemble, KDZ for kirtan in the main hall like you have never experienced it. Imagine about 500 people chanting with me and about seven awesome drummers, combining Indian and Afro-Cuban rhythms for a high that we've been calling Kirtan through the Roof.

Track Record: We are now in our third year of Yogic Mystery School and just finished an amazing opening module with a new batch of students accepted this spring. We are also celebrating two other groups of students, some who have completed a full year's training of Level 1 and others who have completed Level 2, which involved two full years. We are now providing certificates of completion for those who require it and intend to be a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance as well.

Upgrades to the program: We have made a number of upgrades in our program structure, increasing the level of personal attention to each individual student, adding Webinars (interactive life seminars that allow audio, video and live interaction through telephone or computer microphone), private sessions and consultations for each individual student, and layering the curriculum with the sharing of more of my own personal practice.

Requirements: You could be of any faith tradition or spiritual inclination, and, whether or not you have a background in Yoga or Indian spirituality, this program will enhance your spiritual life through helping you get in touch with the deeper dimensions of yoga and spiritual experience. We have students with 20 to 30 years of experience in any one or all three of these tracks, including a number of yoga teachers, musicians and mediators who have enjoyed the study process as much as students with absolutely no prior experience in any of the mediums we use - mantra, music and meditation.

SPIRIUTAL TEACHING: RECLAIMING ENLIGHTENMENT AND RE-INHABITING THE BODY

SPIRITUAL TEACHING: The core of my presentation last weekend in Southfield, Michigan was on reclaiming the word enlightenment. We have to find a way to do this meaningfully. While Eckhart Tolle did a wonderful job of reintroducing it back into our vocabulary, it hasn't really remained as an integral part of our daily spiritual practice, not consciously at least. One of the most important practices we can do today, regularly, is that of re-inhabiting our body. This may sound strange to you, but when you reflect upon this, and especially when you monitor how our awareness is sucked out of the body into a mental zone (and cyberspace) for most of our waking life, it is easy to see how little we actually inhabit our bodies. At least we do not do it fully and yoga, of course, is a wonderful way to do that.

Meister Eckhart once said, and I paraphrase here, "It is not so much that the Divine does not dwell within us, it is we who have gone out for a walk". Let's use the next weeks to keep this in mind in our practice.
