Abode of peace
Shantivanam
 |
 |
Shantivanam Ashram, where Russill belonged as monk for almost five years, is one of the most peaceful places on earth. This is not an exterior silence that we are talking about, but an interior, expansive spaciousness. Shantivanam means "forest of peace" and it is an inner peace that you enter and leave with.

The coffee circle, where we gather twice a day with the other guests at the Ashram, allows for stimulating conversation and a relaxed view of the lifestyle that happens around the premises.

The meditation hall, called the Dhyana Mandir, is where we gather to practice our mantra, mediation and Yoga of Sound sessions. A deep peace pervades the Eucalyptus groves that surround this open air auditorium.

The shrine of the founding fathers of the Ashram is another peaceful power spot on the property. The remains of Henri Le Saux (Swami Abishiktananda), Fr. Jules Monchanin (Swami Paramaurubi ananda), Bede Griffiths (Swami Dayananda) and Bede's yogi disciple (Fr. Amaldass) are venerated here.
