Indian Children
The heart of the culture
 |
 |
Children are an integral part of life everywhere. It brings us great joy to encounter these saplings of Indian culture wherever we travel so we make it a point to interact with them. We often take sweets, and practical gifts like pens, pencils and notebooks, which we give away to share our love.

Indian children are very friendly and extremely curious. They are quick to respond to questions and readily interact with their smiles. A charming historical anecdote from Shantivanam goes like this. Children from the local village, performing at one of Fr. Bede's birthday celebrations were asked the question: Where is God? While all the Christian children pointed up at the sky, the Hindu children pointed to their hearts!

At the schools, and particularly at the orphanages, we try to entertain the children. Magic shows, songs, hula hoops, and most importantly doing the hokey pokey for them. It’s their favorite. They too put on the most adorable performances for us.
