Social Projects
In giving we receive

We expose our pilgrims to numerous opportunities to make a difference in the lives of people we encounter. This makes it possible for us to embrace India's spiritual depth without disengaging with the conditions of the people or becoming overwhelmed with the situation.

In this weaver project, managed by the Ashram, bonded laborers who had signed off their lives to a local money lender were liberated by paying off the lender. They are then taught a trade, such as weaving, and given a loom.

It's wonderful to watch this patient form of industry.  The weavers create saris and other garments with beautiful designs right before our eyes. The products are then distributed by a government co-op which provides them with steady revenue.
